The CEO of Covenant Mercies has taken on the
challenge to run this race along with you. Show up and
give him support as he attempts his first long run, and
watch his training video form Africa beginning in
August.
Your entry fee will go towards these needy projects, and
we are also asking, but not requiring everyone to go to
family, friends and co-workers to raise money by having
people sponsor your walk or run. Again, all proceeds go
directly to Covenant Mercies, www.covenantmercies.org,
and are tax-deductible. 99% of all proceeds go directly
to the projects such as digging wells, building schools,
and orphan care.
Bring the family! We encourage kids and adults to walk 2
miles and raise money for the children of Africa. How
awesome for our children to realize the importance of an
education and to help the African children get that same
opportunity by raising money to help build schools.
More than 26,500 children die every day related to their
poverty worldwide. That is almost 10 million children
dying in the course of a year. 15,000 African are dying
each day of preventable, treatable diseases; AIDS,
malaria, and TB for lack of drugs that we take for
granted.
Former President Jimmy Carter was awarded the Nobel
Peace Prize back in 2002 for accomplishments of his post
presidency years, fighting poverty and disease and
promoting democracy.
President Carter was asked (right after 9/11) "what is
the biggest challenge facing the new millennium?" Among
all the possible choices, he chose the growing chasm
between the richest and the poorest people on earth.
Citizens of the ten wealthiest countries are now 75
times richer than the poorest ones, as opposed to back
in the 1800's it was 4 times difference. The chasm is
increasing every year.
